Post Office
Jobs
Insight and Information
Like all U.S. Federal
Government jobs, post office jobs are an Equal Opportunity Employment
opportunity.
Hiring and advancement in the Postal
Service is based on qualifications and performance regardless of race,
color, creed, religion, sex, age, national origin, or disability.
The
majority of positions for postal jobs require passing a postal exam.
And most people within the post office occupation are employed through
an application and interview process.
Postal
installation managers are generally appointing officials and are
delegated the authority to fill vacancies by transfer, reassignment,
reinstatement of a former federal or postal employee, promotion, or
from an entrance register of eligibles.
Regardless
of the recruitment source, the applicant must meet the qualifications
of the position, including passing the appropriate examination.
Post office jobs require that examinations be either
a written or a rated application process, such as that used
for corporate and professional positions.
The
demands of many postal jobs in today’s work environment have changed
the Postal Service’s recruitment efforts.
The
recruitment programs have been updated to include the hiring of
qualified candidates through the use of fair and efficient employee
assessment systems.
The goal for post office jobs and recruitment is to
attract an adequate number of qualified applicants to consider for
postal employment.
Below is a summation of the
requirement for the USPS (U.S. Postal Service) employment. I
believe you’ll find similar eligibility requirements for most postal
positions.

of appointment or 16 years with a high school diploma.

determined through a urinalysis drug screen.

Detailed
information concerning federal job registers, suitability standards,
selection and appointment practices can found at your local Library's
Reference Department or online at the applicable post office website.
In addition to the Post
Office jobs section here, you may want to consider
other Federal
Government jobs, such as: Government
Contracts jobs, Airport
jobs, State
Government jobs, Federal
Police jobs, Homeland
Security jobs, and Civil
Service jobs.
An important factor to consider when looking into Government jobs is
the Employment
Background Screening that many organizations require.
