Moving Overseas is Very Exciting!
You Can Make it Even Better

Moving Overseas is by far my favorite topic in the job hunting process.

I put a lot of time and effort into an international job search.

I was interested in working abroad since graduating high school many years ago.

Since then I have spent approximately 10 years overseas and have direct business contacts in over 20 countries.

Here's some great advice if you are interested in moving abroad and want some tips on the different types of overseas jobs available to you.
  • Let's start with the obvious. As glamorous as moving abroad sounds, there are many variables to consider.
    • Not only do you have to be concerned with the entire job hunting process as explained throughout this website, but now you have to consider things like household goods shipment, what to do with your vehicle, where to live, etc.
  • I recommend doing a thorough review of the host country you will be moving to.
    • Review the local laws and legal aspects of the country you are considering.
    • This includes passports and visa requirements
    • Medical facilities
    • Working environment
    • many more
But don't let that stop you. I'm right there with you.

If you've never had the pleasure of moving overseas, there is a lot that goes into working abroad.

The hardest part of moving abroad for me involved the active international job search aspect.

You think finding a job in your own country is difficult, try finding something overseas.

It’s not impossible, but does take a little more effort. I was all over the international job search websites with varying degrees of success.

An extremely valuable tool in your international job search is an expatriate, or simply referred to as an "expat". Webster's dictionary defines an expatriate as "leaving one's own country".

There is a little more to it obviously, but when I use the term, I am referring to someone who is working abroad but does plan on returning to their original country at some point down the road.

I have found overseas jobs listed from a wide variety of sources. If you are serious about it, but cannot seem to find anything, keep your eyes open for these hot overseas jobs.

Key Moving Overseas Advice and Tips:
  • Be patient. It is usually much harder to find a job internationally than in your own country.
  • Check out the moving and working abroad web sections for more detailed information.
  • An expatriate is one of the best resources for overseas jobs.
  • Polish up your resume and cover letter. The format for these are a little different in foreign countries.
An expatriate can provide a valuable resource while considering moving overseas.

Similarly, a great human resource for your job search adventure is meeting people and sharing career information. Sharing common career goals will provide enormous benefits.
