Knowing the Job Outlook
May Guide Your Job Search

Understanding the job outlook market is key to linking up your job search strategy to what's available.

This will also help guide your career objectives.

Knowing the job market involves understanding who is hiring in your area as well as what professions are in high demand.

This may lead you to seek additional career education and training or revise your job search strategy altogether.

It is not practical for you to review every job sector in every part of the world, but it would help to understand which trends are happening in your  marketplace.

When looking for the job outlook in your area , start with the "big picture" and work your way down.

For instance, the following information comes directly from the U.S. National Association of Colleges and Employers" .

According to Marilyn Mackes, executive director of the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
  • Organizational growth, employee retirements, business needs, and more-have converged to strengthen hiring projections and bolster the job market for new college graduates.
  • This marks the fourth straight year that employers have projected percentage increases in the double digits.
  • Overall, over half of the employers responding to the Job Outlook Survey reported that they expect to hire more new college graduates this year than in previous years.
  • More than half of the employers who provided key reasons for their anticipated hiring increase cited the growth of their organizations.
  • Many also reported employees nearing retirement age, high attrition rates, or business needs that would require increased hiring.
  • By economic sector, service-sector employers expect the largest increase in hiring over last year.
  • Manufacturers and government/nonprofit employers also plan healthy increases. Manufacturers expect to add 10 percent more new college graduates to their work forces, while government/nonprofit employers plan to increase college hiring by 9 percent.
  • By region, employers in the South anticipate the biggest hiring gains as they expect to hire a quarter more new college graduates.
  • Employers in the West project an increase in their college hiring by just under a quarter, and employers in the Northeast say they will hire 16.9 percent more new college hires this year than last.
Although this information will vary from year to year, this is the kind of information that will help you in your job search.

You can check with your local government offices and Chamber of Commerce to find the latest trends in your area.

Before I conducted my job search, I did a thorough review of the job market in my area. This is extremely valuable for those of you considering a new career.
