The Best
Interview Tips
Come From Experience
When I was searching for a job, I took all the job interview tips I
could get my hands on.
In addition to the job
interview advice and tips provided in the other job interview
sections of this website, here are some additional tips to consider.
- Don't be late.
- What kind of first impression do you think
you will
make if you show up late?
- Scope out the location before the job interview
day.
- Make sure you
know how to get there.
- And factor in traffic and time of day.
-
Arrive early...but not too early.
- 10 minutes prior to the job
interview start is a good rule of thump.
- Don't show up too early. You
may come across too eager or give the impression that you can't follow
directions clearly.
- I always arrive "on-site" extra early.
- I will sit in my car and
review notes or just relax and gain my composure.
- Smile. I know sometimes the job interview
process can feel like
you're going through the Spanish Inquisition, but try to relax and
smile.
- Don't force a smile or else you might look
unnatural and awkward.
- You only get one shot at a first impression.
Make it count.
- Shake hands firmly, but don't crush the other
person.
- Don't expect a decision right away.
- The employer will often want to
confer with his/her associates before making a final decision.
- Probably the best way to prepare for an
interview is to actually go
through one.
- Once you have one under your belt, you may
find that it
becomes less stressful.
- Ask a colleague or friend to hold a mock job
interview and ask him/her to play the part of the employer.
- Practice. I can guarantee you that most (if not
all) of you will go
through the four step phases I mentioned in the job interview technique
section.
- Three of them you can practice immediately.
- Review your introduction.
- You know will have to "tell us a little
bit about yourself".
- Be ready.
- Always have a few interview questions ready to
ask during the "job
applicant question" phase.
- Show interest in the company and ask a
question regarding the organization.
- Research the company prior to the job interview.
- There's nothing
more embarrassing than not having the basic facts about a company prior
to the interview.
- e.g. name, what they do, etc.
- Get your clothes ready the night before, so you
don't have to spend
time getting them ready on the day of the interview.
You can see more interview tips such as dress and appearance in the
marketing
yourself section.
Having a good understanding of what to
expect will go along way.
