Sharpen Your Interview Technique
And Land That Ideal Job

Practicing your job interview technique will have huge benefits for you down the road.

A big part of your interview technique is understanding the different stages of the interview hiring process.

Having a good background of each step will better prepare you for the interview, and help reduce anxiety.

Although not all job interviews will be the same, most (if not all) interviews have four basic stages.

Introduction Stage
  • As you've no doubt heard over and over again, first impressions are the most lasting.
    • This is equally true with the job interview.
  • Think of the first few minutes of the introduction phase of the job interview process as the "first impression" phase.
  • The decision to hire is generally not made here, but it definitely begins here.

Employer Questions
  • After the introductions are completed the employer will then generally go into the question (and answer) phase.
  • The job interviewer will ask a series of questions to determine if you have the set of skills required for employment.
  • Not only are your skills on display, but your attitude and professional image will be assessed as well.
  • Basically, they are trying to determine if you would be a good fit for their organization as well as the job.

Job Applicant Asks Questions
  • You can guarantee that at some point during the interview process, (usually after the employer has asked you some questions), you will have the opportunity to ask some questions.
  • View this as the employer seeing what level of interest you have in the company.
  • This is your chance to clear up anything that might be uncertain to you.
  • It is recommended that you always have a few questions lined up and ready to go.

Wrap-up Phase
  • The interviewer (not you) will close the job interview session.
  • If you are sure you want the job, now would be a good time to stress your desire for future employment with the company.

The successful interview technique begins with an understanding of the basic employment interview process.

This will help you relax and present a professional image the organization is interested in.
