Homeland
Security Jobs
A Vital Part of the Nation's Defense
Homeland
Security jobs are a direct result of the Homeland Security Act of 2002
signed into law on November 25, 2002.
The Act
restructured and strengthened the Federal Government executive branch,
so that it may better deal with the threat of terrorism.
The
Act officially established the Department of Homeland Security.
The
Department's primary mission is to prevent and protect Americans from
acts of terrorism on American soil.
To carry out its
mission, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires the
unprecedented cooperation of several other Federal, state and local
government agencies.
Under the Homeland Security
Act, some (to all) functions of several Federal agencies have been
transferred to the Department of Homeland Security.
Homeland
Security Jobs
- USAJobs, the government's official
central job
bank, created the following list of Federal agencies that hire for
homeland security jobs.
United States
Coast Guard
- The
nation's leading maritime law enforcement agency and forms a critical
part of our country's homeland security infrastructure, protecting
America's coastlines and waterways.
Customs and
Border Protection (CBP)
- Their
mission is to prevent terrorists
and terrorist weapons from entering the United States.
- This important
mission calls for improved security at America's borders and ports of
entry.
Federal
Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA)
- Continues
to reduce the loss of life and property and to protect our nation's
institutions from all types of hazards (whether natural disaster or
terrorist assault).
- This is conducted through a comprehensive,
risk-based emergency
management program of prevention, response, and recovery.
Federal
Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)
- The
nation's lead
organization for interagency training of Federal law enforcement
personnel. FLETC trains the majority of all Federal officers and
agents.
- FLETC services over 80 Federal agencies;
provides training to
State, local and international police in selected advanced programs;
graduates approximately 25,000 students annually; and is the largest
law enforcement training establishment in the country.
U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
- The
largest
investigative arm of DHS. ICE officers enforce immigration and customs
laws, and protect Federal facilities.
Transportation
Security Administration (TSA)
- Is
responsible for protecting
the Nation's transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for
people and commerce.
- TSA offers many careers in
intelligence,
regulation, enforcement, inspection, or the screening and education of
carriers, passengers, and shippers, to assist in securing
transportation infrastructure from future terrorist attacks.
These
are just a few of the organizations that directly support the DHS and
may be worth looking into.
