A Fax Cover Letter
May Come in Different Styles

Should you use a fax cover letter format when corresponding with the employer?

If the job posting does not specify how to deliver a resume and cover letter, I would consider email, regular mail, in person as well as faxing a cover letter.

Before you send your cover letter over to the organization, make sure it is tailored to the specific position you are applying for.

I've provided a short paragraph with each type to show you how one might write a cover letter differently based on the position applying for.

Internship Cover Letter
  • "My unique combination of past work experience and my status as a Clemson University marketing student in my senior year studying business, make me an ideal candidate for a summer internship with..."

College Graduate Cover Letter
  • "Although I have recently graduated Columbus University, I have a lot more to offer than your average college student.
  • While attending school in Massachusetts and Texas, I took on additional responsibilities by working such jobs as advertising sales and newspaper subscription sales, both of which enhanced my formal education."

Classified Ad Response Cover Letter
  • "I believe I am the "multi-talented professional" you seek in your advertisement in today's New York Post.
  • I'm a versatile IT business executive, ready to manage and lead a team of system engineers. I have solid leadership experience you specify as well as the strong computer skills you desire."

Email Cover Letter
  • "Bob Smith from your marketing department suggested I contact you in regards to a marketing manager job with your organization.
  • If you are seeking a highly skilled marketing professional with years of related business experience, I'd like to make a strong case for myself."

Cover Letter to Recruiters and Headhunters
  • "If you have a client who is seeking a loyal and dedicated leader, I'd like to make a strong case for myself.
  • My track record in e-commerce has helped deliver million dollar contracts to clients across the globe."
If you choose to use a fax cover letter, make sure you follow up to ensure it made it to the right place.
