Career Transition is
Exciting
But Map Out a Plan First
Career transition is all about "getting there" from here. Are you
having difficulty getting started? Everyone gets stuck now and then.
It may help you to step back
from the entire job hunting process and
stop your mind from spinning and going in a hundred different
directions. Easier said than done, right?
Here are a few steps to
consider, which might help your transition into your new
career.
- Make a list of things you are interested in.
Will you still be involved with those in your new career?
- Write down what "makes you click".
- Make a list of the activities you are currently
performing.
- Make a list of things you believe in (e.g.
family, security, adventure, wealth, independence).
- Try to remained focused on the big picture.
- As obstacles come up, remember what your
ultimate goal is.
There
is no magic list of activities to accomplish when it comes to a career
change. The simplest approach may be to find out what makes you happy
and what your ultimate goal is.
And define the possible roadblocks that may hinder your progress to a new
career.
By understanding where you are
and where you want to be, you will help define what skills you need to
develop. Or what resources,
assistance or career
guidance to turn to along the way.
As mentioned in the job
hunting process and career
development section of this website, it all begins with
assessing yourself, and then finding a specific job that matches your
desires.
Whether it's a career with a
new organization or seeking various home business
opportunities, addressing the steps above will get you
started down the right career
transition road.
Read through the rest of the
getting started section and map out your career
development plan.
