Make Your Career
Development Plan
Work For You!
A sound career development plan is helpful if you are having problems
figuring out exactly what you want to do, or what it takes to get
there.
Think of this as an action
plan...AND a continuous work in progress.
The hardest part
for most people is just getting started.
Here are a
few tips that worked for me.
- Figure out what it is you want to achieve.
- The career guide is designed to move you
along the best way to achieve
your goals.
- Don't forget to conduct a self assessment.
- After you map out your current situation, you
can then explore
different career options.
- For example, based on your self-assessment of
your job experience, skills, career
education and desires, you may have a list of half a dozen career
opportunities you may want to pursue.
- The next step is to narrow down the list and
choose the best few options.
Once you have created a list of
potential career options, you can come back to your career plan again
and again and make edits as your life situation changes.
You may find that as you
progress in your new
career search you have more (or less) options than you
originally planned.
Key Career Development Advice and
Tips:
- Perform a self assessment. (where are you at?)
- Make a list of career opportunities that match
your desires.
- Narrow it down to a select few.
- Decide how to get there from here (extra career
education, training,
etc.)
If you have laid out a sound
career development plan, you can start working on a job
search strategy that will be more focused...on you!
